A desire for spiritual growth, detachment, may lead one to a place of solitude. That has its place, but the spirit and flesh are best served, in my view, by when the time is right, to return to those you left. Then the love that blossomed in one can be extended to those who were left behind.
One may have to get there by one's self, and as Crowley once pointed out, only a fool would think they could change anyone or anything. Yet there have been great teachers, constantly through out history, people who could not resist trying, for love of others. Perhaps they were fools, but if so, what a wonderful thing to be, to combine spirit and flesh with the lessons of love, to freely give them forth, with no lust for results from one's actions.
