A solid background check is a necessity. There will always be exceptions, due to life situations.
How does one treat a released criminal, who served their time, but was a child molester and wants to live three or four blocks from a school? Are all their rights restored? Voting, living where they want? Are parents allowed to arm themselves due to that person’s presence?
There is a lot of balancing that needs to happen. Don’t claim to have the answers, but it deserves to be thought about in as wide an arena as possible.
Letting mental health information be available is fine, but how far back in time is safe enough? How minor or severe was it? Can their privacy really be maintained?, how?
Until both sides get real about it the issue remains before us, just as the politicians want it to be. Alas!
