Civil discourse is a very good idea.
Have seen a program, many years ago, with the individual who went to Hiroshima, to find out why the line of communication was dead.
He left the morning of the 7th. Arrived midafternoon and surveyed the area. His descriptions are horrific. Went back on the 8th.
Once back he had to convince people as to what he had seen. Finally, by evening the generals were accepting what had occurred.
The Emperor had gone to bed and they decided to wait till morning to inform him of the need to surrender. Before that had happened, Nagasaki was bombed. The rush to end things on one side and the Imperial pomp on the other led to the tragedy of Nagasaki. Hiroshima was a reasonable demonstration to ultimately save lives.
