In the mid-70's lived on a little more than half that, and managed reasonably. Spices were a luxury, but lasted a long time. Bread, vegetables, cheese, tea filled me for the most part. Meat was excluded unless someone took me out, which was a great rarity. Will not say it was easy, but managed and am definitely the better for it.
