It is worth pointing out than many of the Founding Fathers did not free their slaves, even after their deaths. It is also worth mentioning, that beside those who joined Jesus, very few people through out history, have ever impoverished themselves for an idea,no matter how noble. Being human is not a crime, not trying to rise above it, is at best a failing.
One of the few Confederates who freed their slaves, assume there were others, but have no knowledge of it, was Robert E. Lee, as soon as he had paid off his father-in-law’s debts.
None of which removes them from their acts, considering that slavery had been the wallpaper of civilization, as far back as it goes, it is more amazing that people finally woke up to its faults, instead of just accepting it as part of life.
