It seems what you are aiming for is what used to be called common decency, or courtesy. There is nothing wrong with that. Where political correctness and me separate, is where ideas are deemed wrong, just because someone else disagrees with them, and would seek to prevent their airing.

In my view, rightly or not, having an open airing of all ideas, and letting the people think about them, and decide for themselves, which ones are worth pursing, and which are not, is a better way to go about it, than shutting down speakers, whether at colleges or not.

Your article did not mention this part of political correctness, but it is the part that annoys me the most. Free speech, does not mean degrading speech. It is difficult to have a free conscience, or a liberty of consciousness, if people are shutting other people down, due to a thought being uttered, that others deem triggering or hateful.

Democracy, even in our Republican format, demands the opportunity to listen, it does not require agreeing.
