Myu mother was in Vegas in 1956 or 1957 during an atomic bomb test. The newspapers in Vegas mentioned that some of the radioactivity blew through the town. She came down with Leukemia and fought it for 12 or 13 years. So it can happen. She was healthy before she left to go there and did not smoke at all.
