Not to sure about lists. Some of the best books I have read have come from watching movies. If they really caught my attention figured the author was worth reading. That got me to read
Doctor Zhivago, The Egyptian, Ben Hur, A Tale of Two Cities, and many others.
Who knows what will appeal to you till you start. As a rule the book is even better, definitely true for Doctor Zhivago and The Count of Monte Cristo.
