That is a very nice image. It may be right. My view of Paul is as someone who wanted to get the Church up, established, and going, so it would survive its founders. He did that amazingly well. The customs of being Jewish, Islamic, Hindu, etc. are all, to a large degree, something one needs to grow up in, in order to be fully absorbed.
He was a true believer, in the mold of Eric Hoofer's book of the same title. He had great organizational ability and did what he thought necessary. That the two religions could not coexist was perhaps an unintended consequence.
History has shown me, once one group is isolated, for whatever reasons, the remaking group or groups grab the power that is available, permanently isolating the ostracized one.
