That was a very brave thing to do, walking into an unknown situation, that could have gone any which way.

As someone who was born Jewish, am well aware that Hitler never got more than 43% in any vote. Much the same as Bill Clinton, in his first election. Beyond that they have little in cocmmon.

Joining the Nazi party was not like being a Dem or a Rep. It was the only party in town afer 1933. It was the only was to keep one's job or get ahead.

Men of a clear conscious left, if they could. I do not believe they had any real idea of what depths they could sink to, or that in what had been the capital of academia in Europe, would have such an under belley.

The tragedy is not knowing what people will do till they are pushed. Then they will do just what they will do. Alas.
