The ego is a wonderful tool, so that we don’t walk off cliffs or into walls. It is also a terrible master, insisting it has a separate existence, when it is only a tool.
Given a moment of space, we can react with thought not impulse. We are either our own master or in thrall to others, of which the ego is but one of many choices.
At least that is what my road has shown me.
