The Tarot and Me

The journey towards the Tarot began completely unexpectedly. It started in a study hall, in my sophomore year of high school. Very quietly, had been playing cards, with a friend, in the desk next to me. The teacher, whose name has long ago been forgotten, didn’t seem to mind, as long as we did not disturb anyone. Somewhere in one of the hands, he stated that people could tell fortunes with cards.

For whatever reason, this disgruntled me instantly and decided to disagree entirely with his statement. In a fit of either exuberance or hubris, without thinking things through, not uncommon for a sixteen year old, stated clearly, if one person could do it, any one could. With that and his agreement, took the cards, had him shuffle them, came up with a design to tell him, how his summer vacation would go, and that was to be the end of that. When we came back in the fall, he reminded me of the cards and the forecast, which had gone from my mind.

What he said next surprised me, my reading completely matched his summer. Was stunned, WHAT! How could that be? This was done with just regular playing cards, at this time and for another five years they would remain my medium. Have no idea how I decided what suits decided what or what cards meant what, it just sort of came to me.

Afterwards, continued to read, for myself and occasionally a friend or somebody who had heard I read cards and wanted a reading. All this happened in the mid-sixties. In the early seventies, through an old girl friend, met a guy who read Tarot cards. Had never seen or heard of…
