Well written and reasoned. You leave out the minor problem, that a bill will not due. This is a Constitutional situation, which requires a Constitutional Amendment. With 30 states likely to down vote it, it is unlikely to go anywhere. Such a amendment would also require a two thirds vote in each house of Congress, another great unlikelihood.

For all your trust in the people, you forget that they elect, via the Electoral College, those who they prefer, and regularly throw out those they do not. Trump's win may well have been a fluke, but the dislike of Hilary was solid.

Have faith, the people will eventually choose what they want, and who they want, regardless as to party, just be prepared in case it is not yours.
