Would add Robert E. Lee, granted he fought for the wrong side, but he was never defeated in battle by Grant. During the Battle of the Wilderness he was, over three days, outnumbered by 3, 4, or 5 to 1, out gunned, out fed, out clothed, and managed to get Grant to a draw. He may be the greatest defensive general the U.S. produced. He was born in the U.S.
