Would strongly agree, my view of him as an apologist is that without him Christianity might have died out. When everything you believe in, especially your God is deserting you, allowing barbarians to trample, pillage and rape, your cities, on top of them being godless, it makes a good case that maybe one is believing in the wrong God. Julian the Apostate, a late Roman Emperor, tried reestablishing paganism. Without Augustine’s the City of God, there was no explanation for what was happening.

The rest, sin, judgment, power, sex, et.al. merely followed by allowing it to continue to grow.
